Well I can tell you more about last night now; we went toMaidstoneMuseumas we are Friends, and we’d been invited to a preview of a new exhibition called “The Hidden Treasures of Kent”. Over the years, as various sites have been excavated, finds have been purchased by other Museums throughout theUK, and some have ended up in private collections.
For the first time, in hundreds of years, all these artefacts have been returned to Kent for a special exhibition which will last from today until 9th September – do go and see it if you have the chance.
There’s something for people of all ages; the finds of course, plus information about them and their sites and the people of the different eras, and an activity table for the children.
The jewellery in particular is really worth a look – there were so many people there that we didn’t get a proper look last night, but we’ll go again on a ‘normal’ day and view it at our leisure.
Whizzed up to the allotment first thing, before the rain, to plant the peas, some lettuces and sweet corn. Then back home for breakfast and a visit from one of our Group members, who is borrowing the Group’s gazebo for an event tomorrow. (Do you remember me telling you how I lugged it home on the bus one evening last year?!)
Then back again, as we’d promised D and J a couple of dozen of our spare strawberry runners for their strawberry pot. They met us there just as we’d finished digging them up, and I foisted some sweet corn and lettuce plants on them too because we have so many…. plus a Supersweet 100 tomato plant for a patio tub; we had one last year and it gave usw beautiful cherry tomatoes all summer.
Back home again for lunch, and R has popped over toRochesterwhile I catch up here and then I’ll hoover the carpet and wash the kitchen floor. What excitement!!
